New Zealand Church Outs Jesus In Billboard, Will God Disown Him?

St. Matthew-in-the-City’s annual Christmas billboard in Auckland, New Zealand casts some divine light on the sexuality of noted lord and/or savior, Jesus Christ.
“It’s Christmas,” the billboard reads. “It’s time for Jesus to come out.”
The son of God is pictured in his manger with a halo of rainbows and an expression that says, “Hey, just ’cause I’m the King of Kings don’t mean I can’t be a queen.”

According to the church, which is famous/notorious for its tongue-in-cheek ads, the billboard is meant to “lift” Jesus’ humanity and question whether his sexuality would make a difference for Christians.
“The fact is we don’t know what his sexual orientation was,” saidReverend Glynn Cardy.”Would it make a difference if he was gay? Would that change the picture for you? Would it mean what we revere about him changes?”

This isn’t the first time Jesus’ sexuality has been called into question by a member of the clergy. Last week on The Daily Show, Bishop Gene Robinson brought up the Messiah’s penchant for hanging around a bunch of dudes and his reputation as a confirmed bachelor. And seeing that St. Matthew’s depicted Jesus as a baby, it would appear that he was indeed (immaculately) born that way.
